Al Rhew, 81 of Lompoc passed away early Wednesday morning at home surrounded by his family after losing his battle with cancer.
Al was born January 21, 1933 in Pleasant Plains, Arkansas to Delphie Lee Rhew and Emily Bell Rhew. He married his high school sweetheart, Faye Rhew on August 3, 1951, they were married for 61 years. He had been a resident of Lompoc since 1959.
Before retiring, Al worked as an electrician and was a member of the I.B.E.W. Local 413. His hobbies included woodworking, spending time with his family, and he was a square dance caller for the Lompoc Rocking Squares for 30 years and he was an all-around handyman. Al was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, and great-great grandfather.
He is survived by his daughter Kay Rhew DeLira, granddaughter Brandi DeLira, great grandson Andrew DeLira, and great-great grandson Anthony DeLira all of Lompoc; sister Maxine Clark of KoKomo, Indiana; brothers in law George Henderson Jr. and John Henderson both of Arcata, Calif. and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Faye, his parents, brothers Lester, John, Woodrow, Max, and sisters Lorene, LuDean and Faye.
A memorial service will be held 2 pm Monday, June 23, 2014 at the chapel of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. Private inurnment will be at the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
