Obituary

Alan Huey, a devoted husband, proud veteran, loving uncle, and cherished member of the Lompoc community, passed away recently.

Alan was born in Taft, CA on March 22, 1943 to Dale and Martha Huey. After high school and Taft College, he completed IT training at National Technical School in Los Angeles. In 1966, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam era in Germany as a chauffeur to a Colonel. During this time, he also gained an appreciation for German and Austrian beers.

In 1971, Alan married Linda Arnold, the love and steady compass of his life. Their marriage was a true partnership- grounded in kindness, humor, and quiet loyalty. Linda preceded Alan in death in 2009.

He moved to Santa Barbara after the Army, working with computers until he realized he preferred working outdoors without time pressures of production. Alan and Linda moved to Lompoc in 1989, and shortly after Alan began a long and dedicated career with the City of Lompoc Parks Department. He took pride in work that made public spaces welcoming for neighbors and families- work that reflected his belief in community and care for the place he called home.

A lifelong enthusiast of craftsmanship of all kinds, Alan had a maker's curiosity and a patient hand. Whether it was fixing, building, or simply appreciating how things are put together, he approached each project with humility and skill.

Alan is survived and will be sorely missed by his sister and brother-in-law, Carol Pfeil and Ethan Rowe; his brother and sister-in-law, David and Karen Huey, and nieces Melissa and Kristine; and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Howard and Colleen Arnold, and their children, nephew Brian and niece Laura, and Daniel Terres a beloved part of Alan's chosen family. His younger brother, John R. Huey, predeceased him in 2022.
