Alan Blair Martin died on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family after a six-year battle with cancer.
He leaves behind his wife Pamela Martin and daughters Jennifer Martin (David Brunk) and Carrie Boyd (Ben Boyd); grandchildren Madeleine Phillips (Mark Phillips) and Ella Boyd; great-grandchild Alan Phillips; step-grandchildren Sydney Boyd and Krystina and Alyshia Brunk, Elise and Elliott Alexander and many close friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his son Alan Martin Jr., his sister Ethel Crooks, and by his father and mother.
Alan was born in Seattle, Washington to Helen and Blair Martin on November 4, 1946. He moved to Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan at age 6 months after the death of his mother. He graduated from Grosse Pointe High School then joined the Navy and served on the USS Tortuga from 1963-1967.
After serving in the Navy, he met and married his beloved wife Pam. They were married for 49 happy years. During those years, they moved from Michigan to California where Alan worked on Vandenberg Air Force Base and later retired from Raytheon in Santa Barbara in 2004.
Alan had a passion for old cars, motorcycles, history, and his grandkids. He could be seen driving around Lompoc in his 1963 Volkswagen bug. He was adored by his grandchildren and spoiled them rotten.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, August 20, 2017 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at The Martin house. Inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Cancer Center of Santa Barbara at ccsb.org
