Albert James Depew, Jr. of Lompoc died Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at the age of 78.
Albert was born March 30, 1943, in San Luis Obispo, California to Albert and Annie Depew. He was raised and educated in Oceano, graduating from Arroyo Grande High School. After serving in the United States Army, he completed his education at Cuesta College and Cal Poly.
Albert was a service engineer at Cal Poly for 25 years. He was a volunteer firefighter for the city of Oceano for 35 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Arroyo Grande and an active member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Oceano volunteering in essential functions and maintenance of the church.
A 3-year resident of Lompoc, Albert loved hunting, camping and deep sea fishing.
Albert is survived by his wife of 56 years Rosalie Depew, his children: Jerry (Victoria) Depew of Lompoc, Chris (Rebecca) Depew of Lompoc, Jennifer (Abe) Gonzalez of Wellington, Nevada, Albert "AJ" (Alycia) Depew of Carson City, Nevada, and Eric Depew of Grover Beach. He is also survived by his brothers Mike Depew of Stockton and Jerry Depew of Visalia, sisters Lucy Triejo of Arroyo Grande, Ruby Moreno of Oceano, Virginia Yracheta of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, and Irene Villareal of Stockton, 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
The visitation will be Thursday, February 17, from 4 to 7pm with the evening prayer vigil starting at 6pm in the chapel of the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary in Lompoc. The mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, February 18, at 10am at La Purisima Catholic Church.
