Al passed away October 18, 2008 in Lompoc, CA. Al's two children, two granddaughters, family members, friends and acquaintances will forever remember his smile, entertaining stories and interesting sense of humor. At the time of his death, he was a resident of Lompoc Skilled & Rehab Center.
Al was the son of Edgar Allan and Margaret Poe. He was born in Solomon, KS on September 8, 1921. He was one of five children.
He proudly served in the Navy and Merchant Marines during WWII for ten years and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. Al and his wife Jewel, son Jimmy and daughter Janet traveled to Texas and New Mexico where Al worked many years for Schlumberger and life insurance businesses before finally settling in Lompoc, CA where he was employed as a security/crossing guard.
Al is survived by his son Jimmy, daughter Janet and her long-time companion Paul of Lompoc; two granddaughters, Christine and her husband William of AZ and Shannon of Long Beach; one sister in CA and one brother in KS, plus numerous relatives and friends throughout the United States. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Jewel, in 1997.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at 10am in the pavilion of the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery. Officers and members of the Order of the Eastern Star, Miguelito Chapter #176, will officiate.
