Obituary

Alfred Leo Hunt was born November 6, 1913, the fifth of eight children, in St. Paul, Minnesota. He passed away Saturday, April 13, 2013.

The son of Frank Otto Hunt and Julia Schmitz Hunt, he was the first of their children to be born in a hospital. Growing up on a farm taught him many core values by the time he reached adulthood. The first in his family to go to college, he chose St. Thomas College and transferred to The University of Minnesota for graduation.

In 1941 he married Jean Frances Wallraff of St. Paul. He began work as an auditor, while working on his license as a Certified Public Accountant. In 1943 his first child was born, Susan (Mrs. Robert Hibbits) and shortly thereafter he enlisted in the Navy and became a lieutenant. He served in the South Pacific, working for General MacArthur. After the war he was happy to welcome his second daughter, Marilyn (Mrs. Richard Lorimor) and three years later, his third daughter, Kendra (Ms. Champi).

As far as his career was concerned, Al became interested in the field of Management Consulting and continued in this area until he retired in 1976. Consulting took him and his family all over the world, from the Philippines, to Hawaii and finally to Brazil. He retired as a partner with the firm now known as Price Waterhouse Coopers.

He and Mother decided to retire in Solvang, California. Al Hunt contributed to the local community. He was on the board of the hospital, raised funds, streamlined the operations and saw the Solvang Hospital become part of the Cottage Hospital System of Santa Barbara. At Mission Santa Ines, he was a lector, the treasurer of the Men's Club and counted the Sunday collection and proceeds from the annual Fiesta. He was an avid golfer, and played regularly. He and Jean traveled, entertained, and played Bridge with friends. In 2005 the Hunts sold their home on the Alisal and moved to Lompoc with their daughter, Susan. In 2009 Jean Hunt passed away.

Now we are honoring the passage of my father, Alfred Hunt. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather to Mark Luna (who married Rosalinda Garza), Damian and Jesse Champi and great-grandfather to Sara Luna. He wrote two published books, had a great sense of humor, big smile and was always humble in light of his many accomplishments. We will all miss him.

The memorial mass will be celebrated by Father Jerald Barron on Monday, May 6, 2013 at 10 am in the Old Mission Santa Ines. The inurnment will be in the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery. The services are under the direction of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. Starbucklind.com
