Alyce Fitzgerald, of Lompoc passed away Monday, May 27, 2013, battling with pancreatic cancer. She passed slowly, comfortably, peacefully and was able to say good bye to her family and friends.
Alyce was born May 4, 1924, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Perry and Lillian Banta and lived in various locations throughout the mid-west until she was 9, when her family moved to Venice, California. When she was sixteen she met and married "Len." Together they lived in Seattle, Washington, Moses Lake, Washington and Lompoc, California where she resided until now. She left behind four children Lynn, John, Allison and Brian, as well as, eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Alyce (our Mother/Grandmother) was a very unique individual. As well as being kind hearted, she was an accomplished artist, crafts women, doll and doll dress maker, horticulturists, gardener, and seamstress. During her life Alyce taught women to be girl scout leaders, she won so many ribbons in the flower shows, we stopped counting and she gave lectures all over California on doll making and how to make doll clothes. If you have an Alyce Fitzgerald original you have a sought after prize. She made the mouse hole at the Lompoc Public library; it is an exquisite feat of miniature excellence. She and her mother Lillian Banta "Grandma" were active in three different miniature clubs and made many complete doll houses together, one of which is on permanent display (Pumpkin Corner's - a general store) at the Lompoc Public Library.
Mom/Grandma was a wonderful lovely generous person and is adored by her family and friends. We will all miss her dearly. To sum up Alyce all you have to say is "What a Gal."
