Amelia "Amy" Standen of Lompoc passed Thursday, April 8, 2010 at the age of 88.
Amy was born October 9, 1921 in El Vado, New Mexico to Max and Pablita Romero. She lived in Chama, New Mexico during her early years as a youth. She was educated in Chama, New Mexico and graduated from Chama High School in 1938. Amelia was bilingual, proficient in English and Spanish. She became a resident of California in 1941. Amy supported the war effort during World War II working as a welder on naval ships. After the war, she moved to Lompoc and worked at Lind's Café, Alisal Guest Ranch, Yellow Jacket Café, C&B Café and Hi Restaurant. She attended La Purisima Catholic Church and was a member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary Post 211.
Amy is survived by her daughters Rosalita Lagazo (Bert) of Caseyville, IL; Darlene Suarez (Andrew) of Ramona, Ca; and Marcie Whelan of Las Vegas, NV; her sisters Cordy Pacheco and Phoebe Ostlie of Lompoc, seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband George W. Standen, son Nick Cordova, sister Sally Terrones and brother Manuel Romero.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
