Amos "Sandy" Hale died peacefully in his home on December 24, 2017. He was 95 years old.
Sandy was born in Chickasha, OK on March 2, 1922. He left Oklahoma at an early age and eventually ended up in Port Hueneme, CA, where he met Letha Colby. They were married in June 1942, and in October of that year he enlisted in the Army. After three years of service, he returned to Port Hueneme. In 1948, the couple moved to Lompoc, CA, where Sandy began work with Johns-Manville. He operated heavy equipment in the quarries, and retired in 1990 after 42 years.
Sandy was always active. His many hobbies/interests throughout the years included scuba diving, water skiing, motorcycle riding, remote control glider airplanes, land sailing, and his biggest joy in life - playing bluegrass/country music. He played his guitar or fiddle whenever and wherever he could.
Sandy was preceded in death by his beloved wife Letha, and sons Wayne Hale, and James Hale. He is survived by sons Larry Hale and Robert Hale, daughter Linda Hale, nine grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren. Graveside service will be Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at the Lompoc Cemetery. Reception will follow at the Events Mission Valley center, 138 North B Street. In lieu of cards/flowers the family suggests a donation to Santa Barbara Hospice Care, or the charity of your choice.
