Obituary

Anita "Joy" McMullen, born April 12, 1933, in Marquette, Kansas, passed away May 3, 2026, at 1:17 a.m. at Comprehensive Care Center in Lompoc.

Joy was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great‑great‑grandmother whose warm spirit and quiet strength brightened the lives of many. Known for her generosity and hospitality, she enjoyed word‑search puzzles, attending motocross races, and spending time at Lake Nacimiento. Her bacon‑and‑egg burritos were a favorite at races and on lake days. In later years she traveled with the Elks and the Lions Club and enjoyed playing slot machines.

She worked as a waitress at Lodge Coffee Shop in Lompoc from 1965–1985, served as a bus aide for LUSD, and held other food‑service positions. Joy volunteered with AARP, supporting community programs for seniors.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph LeRoy Beardsley (d. 1986), and her second husband, Francis Lee McMullen (d. 2014). Both were U.S. Air Force retirees. She was the last survivor of the Loder family.

Joy is survived by three sons: Mike Beardsley (Linda), Ron Beardsley, and Greg Beardsley; seven grandchildren; 24 great‑grandchildren; six great‑great‑grandchildren; and a wide circle of nieces, nephews, and friends. Ron was at her side during her final years, bringing meals from San Martin, Rice Bowl, and Alfie's.

There will be no public service. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

The family thanks the staff at Comprehensive Care Center, Starbuck‑Lind Mortuary, and Superior Hospice for their compassionate care and support.
