Obituary

Anne was born June 15, 1936 in Sydney, Australia to Robert and Anne O'Brien. She grew up in various parts of New South Wales, Australia. She graduated from The University of New South Wales with a degree in education and taught for several years in Australia. She left Australia in 1957 to travel the world, stopping first in Canada to teach for awhile before continuing on to the United Kingdom. She never made it further than Canada. In 1959 she met the love of her life, Doug Bossert. They were married July 19, 1960 and came to Lompoc, California in 1962.

Anne stayed home with her children, Lynda and Brian, for ten years. She spent those years devoted to her children and their activities, volunteering for PTA, sewing, cooking, and gardening. In 1975 she went to work for the Lompoc Unified School District as an elementary school librarian, first at Westwings School and later at Fillmore School. She thoroughly enjoyed being surrounded by her two favorite things, books and children. In 1980 she went to work full time for the school district at the Teacher Resource Center. She also became president of the classified union, CSEA, during this time and was devoted to meeting teachers' needs in TRC and classified staff needs as CSEA president. She retired from LUSD after 23 years of service. She then served on the School Board for 8 years and loved being a part of the Lompoc Unified School District.

In her spare time, Anne enjoyed keeping in touch with friends, always there to offer comfort, support, and sage advice. She was an avid reader and enjoyed geneology. She was a talented internet shopper and enjoyed finding amazing bargains for her grandchildren. She was very involved with her grandchildren, referring to them as the greatest gifts of her life.

Anne is survived by her husband of 53 years, Doug Bossert; daughter Lynda Bossert Gordon (Andy Gordon) , her three grandchildren, Brett, Shelby, and Ryan Gordon, all of Lompoc; her son, Brian Bossert, and his husband, Greg Hamill, of Chicago, IL; a sister, Lyn McDonald and her husband, Angus, of Australia; a brother, Peter O'Brien, of Australia, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law, Trish O'Brien.

She died Saturday, December 14, 2013 at her home.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, December 21, 2013 at the chapel of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary.
