IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Anne Veronica
Grimes
September 26, 1939 – June 9, 2025
Anne married Joseph Grimes on December 29, 1963 and began a life as a US Air Force spouse. Over the years she lived at RAF Upper Heyford, England, Vandenberg AFB, California, RAF High Wycombe, England, Malmstrom AFB, Montana, Offutt AFB, Nebraska and RAF Alconbury, England. She became a member of the British Wives Club wherever she lived and made dear friends with every assignment over the years and across the miles.
As her children grew older, Anne worked various jobs in Lompoc and was a valued employee at The Village Inn, Lompoc Transit and Martin Marietta. She spent many years working alongside dear friends Jackie Lashore and Rosemary Black at the Postal Service Center at Vandenberg AFB, where they laughed, made tea, and kept the mail for young service members organized. Anne's true calling was that of being a mother where she happily applied her intellect, sense of humor, loyalty and devotion to raising her children.
In addition to being a loving mother and grandmother, Anne was a loyal friend and beloved sister. She absolutely loved and watched nearly any sport and could talk Formula 1, Premier League and tennis with an expert.
Anne was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Theresa Freeman, brothers Gerry, John, and Peter, sisters Rita, Teresa, Kathleen, Marie and Carol and her grandson Anthony.
She is survived by her children Darryle, Lisa and Alvin, grandchildren Nathalia, Antonio, Carter, Erin and Ainsley, brothers James and Tony and sister Christine, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and dear friends.
Anne's legacy is one of family, loyalty, love and kindness. The feeling of warmth and love that people felt in her presence will be missed dearly, but remembered always.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 25, 2025 at 1 pm at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary Chapel.
