IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Anthony Louis
Alonzo Iii
May 8, 1967 – July 3, 2018
Anthony L. Alonzo III passed away peacefully on Tuesday July 3, 2018, at Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA, at the age of 51 after a two-year battle with cancer. He was surrounded by friends and family and most importantly his loving wife Debra who had shared a life with him for 38 years.
Anthony was born on May 8, 1967, to Anthony and Cynthia Alonzo and was the middle child of three brothers, the eldest Richard and youngest Paul. In 1980 he met the love of his life Debra Eberhardt. In 1982 at the ages of just 15 and 14, Anthony and Debra had their first child, Anthony L. Alonzo IV. Against all odds, doubts, and expectations, Anthony and Debra set upon a life that would be the envy of all who knew them. Dedication, hard work, and selflessness were staples of who he was, and those very principles carried him through a life of successful dependency for everyone that knew him.
In 1989 he met the next great love of his life when he took a side job painting fences at Santa Barbara County Lumber Company. He never looked back. Armed with his life's true calling, he and Debra birthed their two remaining sons, Zachary and Brandon, in 1989 and 1990 respectively. Besides his family, lumber was his life, and his interactions at the lumber yard with all of the company's larger-than-life personalities filled his daily stories with great pride and passion. He finished his career in Contractor Sales in the now named Hayward Lumber's Goleta yard. From a painter he had worked his way up, again defying all odds and expectations.
Ever the thinker and logical head, Anthony was someone that everyone would come to for advice or just to vent. He was known by everyone to be the epitome of the kind of guy willing to give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He never turned down friends or family in need, and he always took the time to acknowledge those who went out of their way to lend a hand to him, especially his aunts and uncles whom he loved dearly. Most of the time you could find Anthony hanging around a sports field beaming with pride as he watched his sons excel in their ventures with his son Anthony on the football field, Brandon on the baseball diamond, or most recently Zachary winning a gold medal at the Special Olympics World Games for golf. You were able to find him pacing around the respective fields saying phrases like "we almost had that" as if he too were out on the field competing with his sons. At the time of his death he was a grandfather of six. Until his last breath, his highest concern was making sure those that he loved were provided for and taken care of. A true embodiment of selflessness and compassion, he will be missed by everyone who had the opportunity to experience his infectious energy and personality.
Anthony is survived by his wife Debra, his sons Anthony, Zachary, and Brandon, grandchildren Anthony, Taylor, Teagan, London, Everett and Trenton, brothers Richard and Paul Alonzo, grandmother Margaret Alvarez, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
