IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Anthony Marvin
Armas
December 28, 1941 – June 19, 2025
The family of Anthony Marvin Armas (1941-2025) sorrowfully announces his passing at home on June 19, 2025.
Marvin was a dutiful son, loving husband, caring father, doting grandfather, and joyful great-grandfather. In addition to love of his family, he was a champion of and a servant to the working person, a proud veteran, and he spent a lifetime outracing technology.
Marvin was born three weeks after the bombing of Pearl Harbor in Lompoc. Raised in the Valley, he made many lifelong friends growing up, and his work ethic was on full display in 1953 when he won the "Carrier of the Year" from the local newspaper. He was studious and graduated from both Lompoc High (1959) and Allan Hancock College (1962).
Marvin somehow had a sense that hand delivering newspapers might eventually become obsolete, and he joined the military in 1964. He served in the US Army, the Army Reserves, and the California National Guard. He retired from service in 1989 as a Master Sergeant (E-8).
Many in the Valley may recall Marvin as a food clerk. He was employed at various local stores. His service at Williams Brothers was most memorable. As a checkout clerk he had to memorize the weekly sales and discounts in addition to knowing many of the prices of numerous items. Once again, the threat of technology loomed as barcode readers made the weekly memorization obsolete.
Marvin left Lompoc and the cash register behind in the late 1980s when he became a representative for UFCW Local 1036. In this post, he spent countless hours serving the people he previously had spent decades working alongside. Based in Bakersfield, he spent his time advocating for the thousands of workers in Southern California. Visiting stores across his vast territory, speaking with union members filled his days. But once again technology, now in the form of instant communication, made the need for constant visits obsolete.
The call of family eventually became too enticing, and Marvin and Donna Sue (his soulmate) returned to the area. Having retired to Orcutt, he settled into his last vocation, one that could not be replaced with technology, being a grandfather. He and Sue loved attending the grandchildrens' activities, family gatherings, and taking care of numerous dogs.
Marvin is preceded in death by his spouse Donna Sue, father Tony Armas, and mother Jenny. He is survived by his brother Larry (Janet) and their 5 children; his son Anthony (Pam) and their children Nathan and Isabelle; his son Greg Bubeck (Dana) and their children Tyler, Jeff (Riley), and Kayla; his daughter Kim Passmore (John) and their children Garrett (Britany), Wyatt (Jaran), and Mason; and his son Michael and his child Ethan; and Cupcake the best golden in the Valley. The past few years saw two additions to the family, this time in the form of great grandchildren Bailey and Parker.
All of Marvin's friends are welcome to a short service at the family gravesite located in Lompoc Cemetery at 10am June 28, 2025. A post service celebration will follow.
