Obituary

Antonio (Tony) Ferrer Cayabyab, 72, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2024, surrounded by his cherished family at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. Born on June 9, 1952, in the Philippines, Tony moved to Rich Grove, CA, at the age of 5 and later to Lompoc, CA, in 1970, where he built a life filled with love, faith, and service to others.

Tony spent 12 fulfilling years as a patient courier at Sansum Clinic in Santa Barbara, CA, where his compassion and dedication left a lasting impact. A devoted caretaker, he lovingly cared for his father-in-law, Alexander Barcelona, for four years. Tony was deeply rooted in his Christian faith, which guided his life and inspired those around him. He found joy in coaching youth basketball for the Boys Club, Lompoc Rec League, and Lompoc High School, and he was a constant presence in the lives of his beloved grandchildren.

Tony had an insatiable thirst for knowledge and delighted in sharing his wisdom with anyone who would listen. Known for his honesty, unwavering positivity, and boundless kindness, Tony was a bright light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is survived by his adoring wife of 53 years, Carol; his children, Christina (Frank) Anderson, Tony Cayabyab, and Teresa (Brian) Lane; his grandchildren, Zachary, Quenten, Syrus, Benecio, Brooklyn, Noelani, Owen, Kenley, Zoe, and his great-grandson, Frankie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andreas and Flora Cayabyab.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital Foundation, an organization close to Tony's heart.

Tony will be profoundly missed, but the love, kindness, and wisdom he shared will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to have known him.

"So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord"

2 Corinthians 5:6–8
