A memorial mass will be celebrated for Arlene Huckins, 86, of Lompoc 10 a.m. Friday, October 3, 2008 at La Purisima Catholic Church with Rev. Tom Cook officiating. Inurnment will follow at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery. A Celebration of Life for Arlene will take place at noon on Friday at the Valley of the Flowers Half Century Club, 341 North N Street in Lompoc.
Arlene was born January 2, 1922 in Lebanon, New Hampshire to Malcolm and Nellie McCondach Conner. She was a resident of Lompoc for 50 years and moved from Texas with her husband during his career with the air force. Arlene earned an associates degree from Allan Hancock College, and before her retirement, she was employed as program director for the MBA program for Golden Gate University of San Francisco at Vandenberg A.F.B. One of her favorite pastimes was instructing line dancing at the Half Century Club. She also enjoyed homemaking, gardening and was a Red Cross volunteer for many years.
She died Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at her home.
Survivors include husband of 62 years, Ronald Huckins of Lompoc; son, Michael Huckins of Lompoc; brother, Ernest Conner of Salisbury, Maryland; sister, Joanne Koob of Oquoosic, Maine. Her son, Martin "Buddy" Huckins and brother, Robert Conner, preceded her in death.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Marian Foundation Hospice Program, 504 East Plaza Dr., Santa Maria 93454.
Cremation arrangements are in the care of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary.
