Arlis Yingst, a long-time resident of Lompoc, California, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2026, at the age of 97. Born in Kingston, Arkansas, on April 21, 1929 to Jacob and Polly Yingst, Arlis dedicated his life to his career, community, and, above all, his family.

After serving in the United States Air Force, Arlis married the love of his life, Glenna Norris, and they eventually settled in Lompoc, CA, where he established a successful, long-standing career working for Vandeburg Air Force Base. Outside of his professional life, Arlis was an avid fisherman who loved spending quiet days on the water, and faithfully attended the Methodist Church of Lompoc for 68 years.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Glenna, and their two children, Michael Yingst (Carol) and Kathleen Yingst. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Amy Parreira (Manuel) and Kevin Yingst (Audrey); and three great-grandchildren, Joseph, Maryann, and David Arlis. He is also survived by his sister, Nadine Little, and brother Lennie Yingst (Sandy), and his many nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends as someone who was always willing to listen and extend a helping hand. He led a life of loving patience and kindness, and his memory will live on by those who loved him.

Arlis’ services will be held graveside at Lompoc Cemetery on Thursday, August 27, 2026 at 11 am. There will be a reception to follow at 1pm at the Methodist Church in Lompoc.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in memory of Arlis to the Lompoc Methodist Church (925 North F Street, Lompoc, CA 93436) or Sleep in Heavenly Peace (1032 N Lupine, Lompoc, CA 93436). Sleep in Heavenly Peace is meaningful charity, which builds and delivers beds to children in need, was founded by Arlis and Glenna’s beloved neighbors, Matt and Colleen, and Arlis took great pride in personally helping with its mission.
