Mr. Aurelio Vargas, better known as "Wayo", 94, departed this life on Sunday, March 24, 2019, at his home with his family by his side. He joins his late wife Maria Vargas in eternity.
Wayo was born on June 16, 1924, in Compton, California to his parents Florence and Ralph Vargas. Wayo was the second eldest child in the family, among seven other siblings (Angie, Arthur, Dolphie, Helen, Lilly, Ralphie, & Ramona). He served in the US Navy during World War II on USS Chenango. He was then employed by Johns-Mansville Corp. and retired from Alcoa Corp. During his lifespan, he was married to Katie Olivera, Julia Vargas, and Maria Vargas.
Wayo was an avid fisherman and hunter, he was very independent, he liked to be tidy and dressed-up, and he loved to share a good beer or glass of wine with his buddies at the Lompoc Veterans of Foreign Wars Club where he was a lifetime member. He had a soft spot for cats and his step grandkids.
Mr. Vargas is survived by two siblings, three step-children, and seven step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 9 am Saturday April 6, 2019 at Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Burial with military honors will follow at Lompoc Cemetery.
