B. DeWayne Holmdahl
DeWayne Holmdahl of Lompoc, California, passed away on January 22, 2023. He was 84. He had been a resident of Lompoc for 60 years. DeWayne was born to Walter and Genevieve (Gene) in Oberlin, Decatur County, Kansas, on June 15, 1938. He graduated from Lompoc High School in 1956 and attended Fresno State College and California Polytechnic University in San Luis Obispo, California, majoring in Agriculture, from 1956 to 1961. He was a fellowship recipient from the California Agricultural Leadership Foundation which included a trip to Africa.
DeWayne was a rancher for 30 years working alongside his father. He was involved in local government and Santa Barbara County politics. He was a member of the Lompoc Valley Club and was a life-long, active member of Lompoc Presbyterian Church.
His experience in government opened his eyes to the importance of making sure that government and private citizens worked together. The needs of his community were of great concern to him. Dewayne continually looked to achieve workable solutions that maintained the rights of all people while promoting the common good.
He was a member of the 37 th District of the Agriculture Association, a member of the California Agriculture Leadership Education Program from 1993 to 1995, a member of the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Council and Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Posse, a board member of the Housing Trust Fund of Santa Barbara County, a chairman and board member of the Committee to Improve North County, a past president and 2003 Man of the Year of the Lompoc Valley Chamber of Commerce, a board member and former chairman of the Improve North County, a past County president and California State board member of the Santa Barbara County Farm Bureau, and a board member of the Mission Hills Community Services District.
DeWayne was the Fourth District Supervisor of Santa Barbara County from 1981 to 1989. He was a board member of the Lompoc Unified School District from 1968 to 1973, a former chairman of the State of California Mining & Geology Board, a board member and former chairman of the Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District. Dewayne was involved in the Santa Barbara County Association of Governments, a representative for the City of Lompoc on the board of the Northern California Power Agency, a board member of the Federal Outer Continental Shelf Advisory Board, a member of the Santa Barbara County Fair Board, a policy steering group member of the Jobs/Housing/Mobility Project, a member of Santa Barbara County Association of Governments. Dewayne served on the Lompoc City Council from 1996 to 2008 and from 2012 until 2016. He was a supporter of the Santa Barbara County Food Bank. He was a founding member of the Turducken Dinner Group. DeWayne was the host of the "Grape to the Glass" Radio Show.
DeWayne's employment included ownership of Holmdahl & Sons Ranch & Farming Company, ownership of Mailboxes, Etc., radio station manager at KSMY FM 106.7, merchandising associate at JC Penny, radio host of the DeWayne's Wine Show KUHL 1440, ownership of Holmdahl's Land Use Consulting, and as a notary for Have Notary Will Travel.
DeWayne is survived by his wife Bonnie Brogan Holmdahl whom he married in 1992, sons and daughters-in-law Dennis and Bridgett of Irvine, California, Donald and Chris of Fort Stewart, Georgia, daughters Sherrie Beyer of Oklahoma and Theresa Cline of Howe, Oklahoma, step-son Micah Brogan and his wife Karli, step-son and his wife Timothy Brogan and Amber Hamzeh, 13 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren.
The celebration of DeWayne's life will be Saturday, February 4, 2023, at 11am at Cityview Presbyterian Church.
