Barbara Jean (Myers)
Carlson
August 18, 1934 – March 15, 2026
Calvary Baptist Church
Starts at 2:00 pm (Pacific time)
Barbara was ushered into the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ, in her home, surrounded by family, on March 15th. It was a sweet, peaceful homegoing of a faithful servant. She was born Barbara Jean Myers on August 18, 1934, in El Centro, CA, to her parents, Nellie and Cecil Myers (deceased). The third of four children, she was predeceased by her sister Susie (Myers) Tarner, brother Charles Myers, and sister Norma (Myers) Luport.
Barbara met her husband, Dick Carlson (in the Air Force at the time), and later married in August of 1952. The beginning of their marriage took them to Spokane, WA, where their oldest child, Ron (now deceased), and their daughter, Sandy (husband, Ken), were born. Their Air Force stations took them from CA to WA, Germany, Florida, Taiwan, and then returning to CA in 1967, where she lived until her passing.
Barbara found Christ as her Savior in high school, and her strong faith was a mainstay in her life. She was a prayer warrior, going to the Lord on behalf of her family and friends faithfully. She attended Calvary Baptist Church in Vandenberg Village for over 60 years as a devoted Sunday school teacher and enjoyed being involved in years of
Women's Ministry, leading a ladies bible study for many of them. She opened her heart and home to visiting missionaries, students from travelling choral groups, and had a place at the table for young servicemen away from home, to share a meal.
Barbara loved children and worked in the Lompoc Unified School District for 26 years as an Instructional Aide in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing program with children beginning as young as age three. One of her greatest joys was her family of three grandchildren and their spouses, Joshua (Astrid), Julie (Matt), and Jonathan (Lindsey), who blessed her with 10 great-grandchildren, Shea, Corbin, Kingsley, Elise, Savannah, Jacob, Indianna, Cason, Evelyn, and Remington. She gave and loved generously to them and all she knew, with a kind and unselfish heart. We always said, “She never met a stranger and made everyone feel welcome.”
Barbara was also survived by a loving, extended family and dear friends. Her sweet spirit, beautiful smile, twinkle in her eyes, and a bit of a sassy, fun side will be missed by all.
A Memorial service will be held at Calvary Baptist church in Vandenberg Village, on May 6th, at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Barbara’s memory to the Capital Fund at Calvary Baptist Church.
