Barbara Cox was born on May 25, 1935 and passed away August 19, 2008. Barbara was born in Derry, New Hampshire where she grew up with her parents and eight siblings. Upon graduation of Pinkerton Academy, she moved to San Bernardino, CA where she met her husband of 47 years, Donald Cox. Don was transferred to Vandenberg Air Force Base, which brought them to Lompoc. Barbara enjoyed taking care of property, thus her real estate career began. She was with Culberson Realty for 35 years managing hundreds of properties and assisting hundreds, if not thousands, of people find suitable housing over the years. She always went out of her way to ensure people were able to obtain suitable housing.
Barbara and Don were members of the local theatre group for several years formerly known as "The Valley Playhouse." She was always participating in the kids' schools. She served on the PTA, assisted in classrooms, and was always the most active "Team Mom" for her boys' baseball for many years. Upon the birth of her first grandchild she quickly shifted into "Grandma" mode. She absolutely adored the kids and was a strong influence in their lives on a daily basis. Even in their early and late teens, you could always find the kids and their friends at Grandmas, hanging out, eating and discussing the day's events. Most recently a serious and nutty Dodger fan, Mom enjoyed watching the games with her son Garry.
Barbara was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and great and pleasant woman to anyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She is and will be greatly missed by all.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Donald in October 2007, and is survived by her son, Garry Cox, daughter Diane Long, and son Bill Cox, three grandchildren – Corey Cox, Christopher Long and Nicole Cox, and great-granddaughter Cadence Cox, Corey's daughter, sister Dottie Reed of New Hampshire and brother Frank "Cookie" Jodoin of southern California.
