In Loving Memory

July 18, 1932 - May 12, 2022

It is with broken hearts, the family of Barbara D. Jones announces the passing of our Beloved Mother on Thursday, May 12, 2022. She was 89 years old.

Barbara was born to parents Preston E. Pepper and Mary E Boddy (Pepper) on July 18, 1932, in Yazoo City, Mississippi.  She was raised on a farm in Vaughan, Mississippi and graduated from St Francis High School where she met her future husband Herbert C. Jones.  After his graduation, Herbert enlisted in the United States Air Force and married Barbara at Travis AFB, California on July 18, 1956.  Herbert was transferred to Vandenberg AFB in 1968 where they eventually both retired and made their home in Vandenberg Village.

After Barbara's retirement from USAF Exchange Services, she continued devoting most of her time to her husband and family with her loving and giving nature.  She had a passion for shopping locally and at thrift stores, with coupons in hand, and was always happy to show her finds and express what a bargain she'd gotten.  The store clerks knew her by name because she had such a kind spirit and was so easy to talk to.  Many would describe her as "such a sweet lady."  She was also known for having the best garage sales where she had a knack for talking with people while making many longtime friends throughout the extended neighborhood.  Barbara had a green thumb whether caring for her indoor plants or growing tomatoes in the garden with Herbert.  She mostly enjoyed preparing meals with love and spending time with her family and friends.

Barbara is survived by her daughter Cheryl D. Ramey (Jones) of Sacramento, California; Son Timothy C. Jones of Burlington, Washington; daughter Shawn E. Jones of Lompoc; 12 Grandchildren; 10 Great Grandchildren; her sister Mary A. Stewart of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan; sister-in-love Bobby J. Jones of Oakland, California; and many, dearly loved nephews, nieces, and cousins.  She is preceded in death by her husband Herbert C. Jones; her sons Michael L. Jones and Daryl K Jones both of Lompoc; and her brothers Jack Pepper, Calvin Pepper, Sr., Lloyd Pepper, Hayes Pepper, and Kenneth Pepper.

A viewing will take place on Thursday, May 26th from 4-8 pm in the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary Chapel with Praying of the Rosary at 6 pm.  A funeral service is scheduled for Friday, May 27th at 10 am in the Chapel of the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary.  Interment will follow at the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff that tenderly cared for our Mother at Lompoc Valley Medical Center, Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, Buena Vista Care Center of Santa Barbara, and Visiting Nurses Home Health and Hospice Care.
