Barbara Rhodes Linn died Tuesday morning October 18, 2016. She was born in 1918, the eldest daughter of Amelia Perrozzi and Allen Rhodes, both descendants of early Lompoc settlers. The Perrozzi's ran a dairy on land later acquired by Vandenberg Air Force. Allen farmed pinquitos on the Sudden Ranch.
Barbara graduated Lompoc High School in 1936. She married Edward E. Salzman, shortly before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. This union produced Barbara's only child, a son, Gary Salzman of Berkeley, CA. Edward's sister Alora, married Walter Spanne, descendant of another early ranching family. Edward died a hero's death on Guam in 1945 and was awarded the Purple Heart.
Later, Barbara remarried Thomas Linn whose job as field manager for Bodger Seeds took them to Chino, CA. Bodger's also provided Barbara with a life-long occupation as seed analyst, overseeing germination.
After the early death of Mr. Linn, Barbara returned to Lompoc to be close to her sister, Hazel Beattie and her supportive and tight-knit family. She continued to work for Bodger's, cultivated many friends and volunteered many years for the Lompoc Historical Society as historian and record keeper, compiling obituaries of Lompoc notables.
Barbara is survived by her son and his wife, Vicki, and their two children Noah Salzman of Albany, CA and Maria Kubitz of Castro Valley, CA, giving her a total of six great grandchildren. Beloved niece and nephew Linda and Don Zebley and their son David and his wife Melissa Zebley all of Lompoc. There are also many grand nieces and nephews too numerous to list here. A service will take place on Saturday October 22, at the chapel of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary.
Donations may be made in her name to the Lompoc Historical Society, PO Box 88, Lompoc, CA 93438.
