Barry Lee Sorenson, 51, of Lompoc, died Sunday, August 16, 2009. He was born January 24, 1958 in Brownsville, Pennsylvania, the son of William and Alice Sorenson.
Barry was raised and educated in Cleveland, Ohio and graduated Midpark High School in 1976. He entered the U.S. Army in 1978, served as part of the 82nd Airborne Rangers and retired from the Army in 1989. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion Post 40-8 and Post 125, where he served as Commander from 1997 to 1999. Barry was instrumental in putting the Vietnam Memorial Wall at River Park.
He is survived by his mother Alice of Ohio; brothers, William Sorenson Jr. and Darryl (Jeanne) Sorenson of Ohio; children, Jesse, Cody, and Jennifer of Indiana and Travis, Nicole and Candice Sorenson of Missouri; and nieces Stephanie and Stacy Sorenson of Ohio. His father preceded him in death.
Funeral services will he held on Thursday, August 20 at 10am at the Chapel of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. Internment will follow at the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery with military honors.
Visitation hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the mortuary.
