We have lost a great man on Monday, August 17, 2009. A husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend.
Basilio Estrada was born in Purandiro Michoacan Mexico on September 23, 1935, but was raised in Tedeparacua, Michoacan Mexico and considered Tendeparacua his hometown. He was part of the migrant worker program in the 1950s. The program allowed young Mexican men to work in the US during harvest time and then would be allowed to return to Mexico. He worked in several cities in California and Arizona. He officially moved to Lompoc in the 1970s. He married Guadalupe Luna Barajas in 1955. Together they raised seven children. Virginia Estrada Avila (Ramiro Avila), Maria Salud Estrada Flores (Ofelio Flores), Efren Estrada, Maria Estrada Garcia (Cirilo Garcia), Hisidro Estrada (Michelle Vargas), Consuelo (Connie) Estrada Verceles (Joseph Verceles), and Carmina Estrada (Eric Burmester). Basilio has 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Basilio is preceded in death by his son, Encarnacion Estrada.
Basilio was loved by all his friends and family. He was the life of the party and everyone always looked to him for a smile and a joke. He had a wonderful sense of humor and often got the last laugh. Basilio was an avid walker and everyone knew him from his many walks around town. He enjoyed going on car rides especially to the flowers fields around town.
A visitation will be held from 4 to 8pm with a Vigil services beginning at 6 p.m., Friday, August 22, 2009 at the chapel of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 8:30 a.m. at Queen of Angels Church.
