Beatrice Glasmacher was born on August 3, 1925 in Surabaya, Indonesia to Adele and Theodore Berg and was the youngest of six children. During World War II, Bea became a prisoner of war in Indonesia. After the war, in 1948, she married John Glasmacher, the love of her life. The couple had three daughters in Indonesia. In 1956, the family moved to Holland, where they had their son. In 1960, the family moved to the United States and resided in Phoenix, Arizona. There, they welcomed their youngest daughter. In 1967, they moved to Santa Barbara, California where they happily resided for almost forty years. In 2006, Bea and John moved to Buellton near their youngest daughter and family.
Bea and her husband were devout Catholic parishioners of Saint Raphael's Church in Santa Barbara and Old Mission Santa Ines in Solvang. She was an exceptional bowler for nearly thirty-five years at San Marcos Lanes, Orchid, and Zodos bowling alleys in Goleta. Bea was a superb cook as well, preparing Indonesian and Dutch dishes for her family and friends. She had a love for the beach, gardening, animals, games, and arts and crafts that were all endearing qualities which will not be forgotten. Her love and devotion to her family was evident in many family gatherings celebrating holidays and birthdays. We will truly miss our beloved mother (Moes) and grandmother (Oma).
On Friday, Dec. 4th a rosary for Bea will be held at 9:30 am and a memorial mass at 10:00 am at Old Mission Santa Ines, located at 1760 Mission Drive in Solvang.
