Benjamin Wayne Belzil, 38, of Lompoc, California, passed away September 26, 2019. Benjamin was born on July 26, 1981, in San Diego, California. He married the love of his life Alisa Hull in 2005.
As Benjamin's father was in the United States Air Force, the family moved several times during Benjamin's childhood. Caribou, Maine; Montgomery, Alabama; Fairfax, Virginia; Rome, Italy, and Brussels, Belgium were places his family called home.
Benjamin earned his high school diploma from Brussels American School in Brussels, Belgium. He was awarded a full military scholarship to the University of New Hampshire where he earned his bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering and was commissioned into the United States Air Force in 2004. Benjamin earned the rank of Captain and was proud to be an Explosives Ordnance Disposal officer. He served his country with pride. Ben's favorite times were spent exploring nature with his family hiking and playing in the surf on the California Coast.
Benjamin and his family moved to Lompoc in 2016. He worked as a civil engineer on Vandenberg Air Force Base as a civilian until the time of his death.
Benjamin is survived by his wife Alisa, his two sons Cailean and Lucas, parents Michael and Pamela Belzil of Tullahoma, Tennessee, brothers Michael Belzil, Jr. and Joseph Belzil, and sister Elizabeth Eva Belzil. He was preceded in death by his parents-in-law Timothy and Yvonne Hull, grandmother Lois Lister and grandfather Normand Belzil.
Ben was a compassionate friend and a loving father, husband, brother and son. His light will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 6, 2019, at 3 pm at the Vandenberg Air Force Base Chapel, 587 Summersill Rd # 16200, Vandenberg AFB, CA 93437.
