IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Betty Hamilton
Thompson
July 2, 1927 – February 10, 2020
Betty Hamilton Thompson, 92, beloved mother and grandmother, entered eternity on Monday, February 10, 2020. Her family was with her and celebrated her life that weekend, with a beautiful time of worship, prayer, communion, songs of praise, and reflecting on Mom's faithfulness to God and her love for her family and friends.
Betty Thompson was born in Eugene, Oregon, on July 2, 1927, to William King Hamilton and Florence LaDora Beers Hamilton. Betty Lou, as she was known to her family, had two older half-brothers, Harry Hamilton and Allen Hamilton, and a younger sister, Bonnie Lee Kennedy. She grew up in Eugene, and met her husband Gene Thomas Thompson at the First Baptist Church of Eugene. Shortly after they married in 1953, they moved to Pasadena, California where Gene worked at Jet Propulsion Laboratory and Betty worked at a lumber brokerage firm.
In 1956, Betty and Gene moved to Los Altos, California where they raised their family, Dan, Kathy, Christie, and Sheri. They were very involved at First Baptist Church of Los Altos, now Bridges Community Church. In 1970, the family moved to Lompoc, California. Betty was constantly active and known as an amazing cook, hostess, seamstress, and gardener. She worked at Calvary Baptist Church in Lompoc as secretary for 30 years. She was selfless in her acts of kindness, never thinking of herself and always concerned about others.
Betty is predeceased by her parents, her brothers, and her beloved husband Gene, whom she is now with in eternity. She leaves a heritage of God's faithfulness with her son Dan Thompson (Cheryl) of Elk Grove, California, Kathy Thompson (Mark) of Visalia, California, Christie Garrison (Bob) of Shasta, California, and Sheri Johnson (Jeff) of Lompoc. Twelve grandchildren who will forever be blessed by Grandma Betty are Melissa, Meganne, Keith, Marshall, Seth, Forrest, Sierra, Rachel, Brad, Sam, Bekah, and Abby. Betty was blessed with 10 great-grandchildren, and one on the way. She is also survived by her sister, Bonnie Lee Kennedy, and nephew Mark Kennedy (Eileen) of Sunriver, Oregon .
A memorial service is planned to celebrate our beloved Betty on Saturday, February 29, 2020, at 1:00pm at Calvary Baptist Church, Lompoc, in the Fellowship Hall.
Betty's family would like to thank her caregivers, Dee, April, Cande, Hahn, Amina, Sharon, Josephine, Christy, and many others. We appreciate their love to mom over the past year. We also thank Assisted for their comfort and compassion, and Dr. Gusland for his loving care over the years. Betty was also blessed with wonderful neighbors who were more than friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Bekah Thompson with "Cru" (Campus Crusade for Christ) at http://give.cru.org/0936661 .
