Obituary

Betty June Walker was born on July 23, 1931 in Hinton, Oklahoma to James H. and Ester G. Young, and died at the Lompoc Skilled Nursing Facility on November 16, 2017 after a 2 year battle with Multiple Myeloma.

Betty's father was an auto mechanic and her mother was a homemaker. She grew up in the tiny town of Hinton, Oklahoma with
her many girlfriends that she kept in close contact with her whole life. Betty had one older brother who married one of her girlfriends and so the two became fast friends for life. For a brief period before High School her family lived in Joplin, Missouri but they returned to Hinton, Oklahoma where she played trumpet in the band and completed her High School education.

It was during Betty's High School years that she met the love of her life, William "Kenneth" Walker whom she married at the age of 18 yrs in 1949. They devoted their lives to each other for the next 68 years. Times were difficult in Oklahoma in 1949 so in September of 1950, Ken and Betty relocated to the Lompoc Valley so that Ken could take a job at the expanding Celite Plant (Johns-Manville Corp) where he worked while they built their family for the next 38 years. Both Betty and Ken's parents followed them to Lompoc, also in search of a better life, and provided baby
sitting duties as the family grew. Betty and Ken were driven to succeed and they both worked multiple jobs to buy two houses and pay them off while raising and educating their 3 kids (Dixon Walker, Dixie Stevens and Kenny Walker). Betty became a licensed baby sitter and used this to contribute to the family's efforts. Later she worked for theLompoc School District in the School Lunch program. She also found time to be a foster parent at one point.

In December of 1988 Betty and Ken retired and began to travel extensively in their motor home making friends everywhere they went. They would join some of these friends each year as they would circle their motor homesin the Arizona desert and enjoy many stories and special dishes around the camp fire. Betty was active in the church and very devoted to her faith. She was dilligant about supporting her many charities and missionaries, some of whichwere close friends. In her later life she devoted nearly all of her time to caring for her husband and helping the seven grand children and ten great-grand children.

Betty is survived by her children; Dixie Stevens of Buellton, Dixon Walker of Canyon Lake, Texas and Kenny Walker of
Ephrata, Washington; her grandchildren Nathan Walker, Darren Stevens, Jennie Walker, Brian Stevens, Crystal Van Die,
Amanda Peterson and Marty Walker; great-grandchildren Cody Stevens, Cody Miller, Kailey Stevens, Andrew Van Die, Geneva Walker, Charlotte Van Die, Deborah Walker, Makayla Van Die, Vienna Walker and Theodore Walker.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband William K. Walker, her mom and dad James and Ester Young and her
brother James Young, Jr.
