Bettye Louise Austin Shacklett was born in Evansville, Indiana on March 18, 1940, to William Sam Austin and Sarah Elizabeth Norris Austin.

Bettye attended Clarksville High School in Tennessee.  After graduating she joined the women's Marine Corps in 1958. She moved to Lompoc, California in 1961 where she met and married Roy McMurray Shacklett, Jr.  Bettye had a daughter, Karen, and a stepson, William. She resided in Lompoc for 35 years, retired, and moved back to Tennessee for 18 years. Due to health challenges, they moved back to Lompoc to live with Karen.

Bettye was preceded in death by her husband, Roy.  She is survived by her daughter, Karen Albro (Dean), stepson, William Roy Shacklett (Marie), grandson, Cole, granddaughter Colby, and three fur babies.

The graveside funeral service will be Monday, April 1, at 11 am in the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
