Obituary

Vigil services for Lompoc native William Lawrence Huyck, 73, will be 7 p.m. Thursday, October 30, 2008 at the chapel of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. A funeral mass will be celebrated 9:00 a.m. Saturday, November 1 at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Msgr. John Fitzgerald officiating. Burial will follow at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.



Mr. Huyck died after an 8-month illness at the Lompoc Convalescent Care Center October 27, 2008. He was born in the Susan VanClieff Lompoc Sanitarium Home which was located on the same site as the Convalescent Care Center is today. He was 4th generation Lompoc native and lived his entire life in Lompoc, except for farming in Guadalupe for 6 years. He farmed with his Dad and brother (John) in the lower Lompoc Valley, he also worked for the Sudden Estate and retired from Pan American Seed in 1990.


He played football and basketball for Lompoc High School and graduated in 1953.


He married Doty, his high school sweetheart in June of 1954 and recently celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary. They have 8 children and 15 grandchildren.


Teresa Prewitt (Matt) of Gaviota; Andy Huyck (Krisri) of Templetobn; Judy Gaitan (Danny) of Carlsbad; David Huyck (Annie) of Santa Barbara; Paul Huyck (Cheryl) of Clovis; Sheila Davis (Franz) of Lompoc; Dororthy Civitillo (Troy) of Anchorage, Alaska.


His siblings include: John Huyck of Arbuckle, California; Alice Domingos (Tony) of Lompoc; Helen Sousa (Victor) of Lompoc, he is also the uncle of numerous nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Huyck; morther, Dorothy Daly Huyck; sister, Mary Huyck Luis; and most recently his Douglas Lee Huyck who passed away in February of this year.
