Obituary

Billy B. Cooks of Lompoc past away Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at the age of 66.

Billy was born June 19, 1943, in Phenix City, Alabama to Arthur and Magnolia Cook. After graduating from Gerard High School he attended Florida A&M University and shortly thereafter enlisted into the United States Air Force. After being stationed in Athens, Greece he was transferred to Vandenberg Air Force Base in 1977. He retired as a Master Sergeant after 23 years of service. Following his retirement he went back to work on Vandenberg Air Force Base until his second retirement in 2006.

Billy was an active member of Saint James Missionary Baptist Church. He was a deacon and the president of the Brotherhood. He was also a member of the American Legion and the VFW Post 125. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, reading and sports of all kind. He especially enjoyed spending time with "Willie". He loved to be hospitable, cook and entertain, talk and always had a funny or interesting story to share.

He was a wonderful devoted husband, father and friend.

Billy is survived by his wife of 43 years Ola Cooks of Lompoc, children Monica L. Cooks of Monrovia and "Willie", his brothers Gene Cook of Cleveland, Ohio and Harry Cook of Columbus, Georgia, his sister and brother-in-law Voncille and George Williams of Columbus, Georgia, an uncle Alvin Cook of Georgia, aunts Earline and Gretchen Cook of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law including Doug and Luella Miller of Pomona, California, Murry and Georgiana Fontenot of Alta Dena, California, Patricia Davis of Seattle, Washington, Pamela Davis and Jacquelyn Davis, both of Victorville, California, two goddaughters and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.. He was preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers Thomas and David Cook.

The visitation will be on Monday, March 29, from 4-7 pm at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. Pastor Willie B. Armstead will conduct the funeral service on Tuesday, March 30, at 11:30 am at Calvary Baptist Church, 3355 Constellation in Vandenberg Village (Lompoc), followed by a repast at the Veteran's Memorial Building at H Street and Locust Avenue in Lompoc.

The interment will be at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California on Friday, April 2, at 1:15 pm.
