Robert Glen Monroe died Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at his home in Lompoc at the age of 77.
Bob was born December 17, 1930 to Avery and Alta Monroe in Alamosa, Colorado. Raised and educated in Inglewood, Colorado, at the age of 15 he convinced an Army recruiter that he was old enough for military service. He served in the US Army Air Corp. at the end of WWII in Austria and North Africa and retired as a Master Sergeant at Vandenberg Air Force Base in 1971. A resident of Lompoc since 1964 he completed his education earning a Bachelor's degree in American history from the University of Laverne. He had a second career working in the aerospace industry at VAFB, where he worked on the Minuteman, Peacekeeper, Atlas and Titan missile projects.
Bob was a member of Toastmasters, the Odd Fellows in Lompoc and a master Mason with the Mason Lodge #264 in Lompoc.
Bob is survived by his wife of 54 years Mary Monroe of Lompoc, daughters April Porter of Merritt Island, Florida, and Cynthia Monroe of Lompoc. He is also survived by his granddaughters Lacey Porter of Lompoc, Holly Doetzer and her husband Sean of Palm Bay, Florida, Candace Burke of Lompoc and Sky Lundy of Lompoc, and his great grandsons Ayden Robert Doetzer and man's best friend Cody.
Cremation will be followed by a graveside service at 1 pm, on Monday, February 11, 2008, in the Lompoc Cemetery led by Marian Medical Hospice chaplain Reverend Ricardo Gonzales. The Vandenberg Air Force Base Honor Guard will render military honors.
Bob's family suggests memorial donation be made to the American Diabetes Foundation of Southern California, 6300 Wilshire Blvd. #100, Los Angeles, CA 90048. Arrangements are under the direction of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary.
