Memorial services for Bobby Lee Smith, 51, of Lompoc, will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2007 at Bethany Lutheran Church with Pastor Jim Mackereth officiating.

After a courageous battle against cancer, Bobby Lee Smith past away peacefully Monday morning April 16 2007 in his favorite recliner. He was sustained these past 14 months by his loving wife, children and his quiet faith.

Bobby was born December 26 1955 in Port Hueneme to Helen Batastini Smith and Billie Lee Smith. He grew up in Santa Barbara where in 1977 he met the love of his life Lisa Bortolazzo. They were married in January 1979. While living in Santa Barbara, they had sons Scott, Adam and Dustin. In 1987, they moved to Lompoc where soon after their daughter Ashley was born.

Bobby gave up the best years of his life working for Granite Construction Company. He was well respected by his coworkers and was a very dedicated employee. He didn't love his work, he worked because he loved his family.

His family was above all the most important aspect of his life. Bobby always said he raised his children with "a lot of love and a little fear" and to this day, his children would not have had it any other way. Very important to Bob was also that his children grew up to be a lady and gentlemen.

Bobby was a wonderful handyman and could fix anything put before him especially if he was told it could not be fixed. He was always first to volunteer to help out friends and family with weekend projects.

In his spare time, Bobby had a passion for lifting weights and keeping his body in shape. He also enjoyed keeping a wonderfully combed head of hair. He also loved camping at the lake, sports of any kind, coffee with his wife, old war movies, hunting (not fishing), rainy Sundays during football season, and anything that involved his kids.

Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Lisa Smith of Lompoc; sons, Scott (Heather) Smith, Adam Smith and fiancée, Kati; and Dustin Smith, all of Lompoc; daughter, Ashley Smith of Lompoc; brothers, Jerry (Carol) Smith of Santa Barbara and Mike (Jill) Smith of Lompoc; sister, Penny (Don) Pommerville of Lompoc; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Bobby will always be remembered as a hard worker, a loyal friend and brother, and above all a loving husband and father.

Cremation arrangements are in the care of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary.
