Obituary

Bonnie Ruth (Pointer) Burns
10 Nov 1928 – 31 Dec 2008

Bonnie Ruth Burns passed away in Lompoc on December 31, 2008, after an extended illness. Bonnie was born in Frederick, Tillman County, Oklahoma, on November 10, 1928. She moved to Fillmore, California, as a young teenager and graduated from Fillmore High School in 1948. In Fillmore, she met Frank Burns, and they were married in Las Vegas on June 11, 1948. They moved to Lompoc in 1953, and Frank went to work for Johns Manville as a Maintenance Mechanic.

Bonnie was active in her church and enjoyed crafts, cooking, and country music. She had great affection for birds, flowers, and her children, grandchildren, and great-grand child. A homemaker, she also worked as a Nurses Aid at Lompoc Hospital and took on the duty of nursing her husband during a long illness that preceded his death.

Bonnie stuck to her guns and rarely backed down when she believed in something. She was also a very caring and tolerant person who enjoyed humor and cherished her relationships and associations with the wide variety of people she met in her life.

Bonnie is survived by her daughter Vivian Burns of Delano, CA, sons Bruce Burns of Santa Maria, and Steven Burns of Lompoc, her brother Orvil Pointer, of Baltimore, Maryland, grandchildren Robert, Stacy, Stephanie, and Melissa, and great granddaughter Hope.

Services will be held at 1:30 pm on Wednesday, January 7, 2009, at the chapel of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. Burial will follow at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the American Diabetes Association
