Bonnie Jean Gabel, age 88, of Lompoc died peacefully Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at Fountain Square in Lompoc, California. Bonnie was born on November 14, 1936, in Topeka, Kansas the daughter of Albert and Clara Kaempfe. She married Darrell Gabel in 1961 and had two children Lisa and Sherrie. Bonnie will be deeply missed by all her family and friends.

Bonnie was a Registered Nurse receiving her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Fort Hays State. She started her career working as an emergency room nurse in Hays, KS and then later moved to Oxnard, CA to care for children in a psychiatric ward. She finished her career training medical staff at Lompoc Convalescent Care Center and Hancock College. She received high praise from many of her students.

She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, and singing in the church choir. We will miss her singing Christmas carols while being accompanied by her daughter Sherrie. Bonnie recorded a record that we play on the Victrola. It will forever capture her lovely voice. She also loved spending time with her family, especially the grandkids. Bonnie had a soft spot in her heart for them, and they adored her.

Bonnie is survived by her loving husband Darrell Gabel; two children, Lisa Evans and husband Matt (San Diego, CA); Sherrie Gabel and her fiancé Jeff Lightner (San Diego, CA); two grandchildren Rachel Evans (Denver, CO) and Darrell Evans (Sunnyvale, CA); one brother Billy Kaempfe (Carthage, MO) and one sister in-law Diane Repsher (Scottsdale, AZ); along with many extended family members who will miss her warm and giving spirit. Family meant the world to her.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Fountain Square and VNA Hospice for their dedicated and compassionate care. We would also like to thank our special in-home caregivers, April, Susie, and Karen who made sure Darrell got to visit her often.
