Carl Mark Edward, retired Fire Captain for the City of Lompoc, died peacefully on April 18, 2018, surrounded by his loving family and friends.  Carl was born on August 17, 1960.  He attended Lompoc schools and obtained his Fire Science degree from Allan Hancock College.

Carl had a 35-year career in fire service as a VAFB Hot Shot, reserve firefighter, firefighter, engineer and captain.  He served for 30-years in the Lompoc Fire Department (LFD).  He coordinated the Fill the Boot campaign for many years and was given recognition by the MDA for his efforts.  He also coordinated the Firefighters  Quest for Burn Survivors Relay even after he retired.   Carl retired from LFD in 2015 and shortly after he trained to become a substitute bus driver for the Lompoc Unified School District.  He transported Special Education students and always showed great compassion for the children entrusted in his care.

Carl leaves behind his wife and partner, Shirley; step-daughter and son-in-law Corey and Brandan; father, Don Edward and stepmother, Joanne; mother, Mary Lou Beatty; and brother, David.

Carl learned something new every day and took great pleasure in sharing his newfound knowledge with those around him.  He loved hockey (Go Kings!), mountain biking, fishing trips, good wine, and hanging out with Shirley.  He will always be remembered for his wonderful humor, kindness and his loveable "quirks."  Those who knew and loved him will never forget how hard he loved and how much he liked to make you laugh.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, April 30, 2018, at 1:30 p.m. at Lompoc Foursquare Church, 125 North C Street, Lompoc, CA.
