Carl Edward Murphy, 74, of Lompoc was born on August 23, 1940 in Roseville, Michigan to Wilfrid Patrick Murphy and Lempi Korhonen Murphy and passed away June 15, 2015 at the Lompoc Skilled & Rehabilitation Center. Carl was a U.S. Navy veteran, and retired from ITT Federal Electric Corp at Vandenberg AFB after 30 years. He later retired from Procter and Gamble Corp. in Oxnard after 10 years as a co-generation power plant engineer. Carl was a Roseville High School graduate and attended Pasadena City College and Allan Hancock College.

An avid outdoor photographer, story/joke teller, gardening and fishing enthusiast, he was a voracious reader of WWII history and contemporary politics. He served in Sacramento as a member of the Electoral College in the 1980 and 1984 elections due to his elected position as State Chairman of the United Republicans of California.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Elizabeth "Betty" Murphy; sons Brian and Mark (Angel) Murphy; brothers Jim and Thomas Murphy; sisters Mary Patricia Day, Nancy Gillem, Gloria Morpheu, Teresa Beels, Kathy Masserang, and Rosemary Brock. He is also survived by his faithful Boston Terrier, Maggie.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Mike and Frank Murphy; and sisters Peggy Gauthier, Helen Barton and Dorothy Lamb.

The family would like to thank Dr. Gilberto Alvarez of Stella Maris Clinic for his invaluable care over the last 10 years and all the nurses who cared for Carl in his last days.

Graveside services will be 2:00 pm on Friday, June 19, 2015 at the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.
