Weyl
December 4, 1927 – August 30, 2021
Carl J. Weyl Jr, born December 4, 1927, passed to our heavens on Monday, August 30, 2021, at Lompoc Valley Medical Venter Surrounded by his family and friends. Carl was 93 years old, and an avid aeronautical enthusiast. Husband to Freddie (deceased) and father to Carl J. Weyl III (Cindy), Raymond N. Weyl (Kim), and Robert D. Weyl (Linda), 6 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. His fascination with aeronautical adventures ranged from radio-controlled model aircraft to the low and slow of hang gliders, to home-built experimental aircraft, and to supersonic military fighter aircraft. After obtaining a master's degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Cal Tech, his desires took him to a career in aircraft design and construction at Northrop Aircraft for over 30 years. Concurrently with his college studies and Northrop employment Carl obtained and kept current his Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) with Inspectors' Authorization (IA) license until near his death, he also built 2 homebuilt experimental aircraft in his "spare time "Both of which were flown to and back from Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The FAA awarded Carl their Charles Taylor Master Mechanic's award for 50 years of service. After relocating from the South Bay to the Lompoc Area in 1985, Carl and Freddie were involved in numerous organizations including the Elk's Lodge and the Alpha Club, along with his membership in the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA). Both Carl and Freddie loved traveling, numerous times taking one of their 2 aircraft. Services will be held on Saturday, October 2 nd at the Lompoc Cemetery at 11:00 AM.
