Carleen Bartick Talbot died on Thursday, March 31, 2016 in Lompoc at age 90 after a short fight against pancreatic cancer.
Carleen was born Carleen Bartick (no middle name) on December 23, 1925 in San Antonio, Texas to Max and Goldie Bartick. She had an older brother Harold through whom she had four nephews and nieces.
Carleen met Guy Kendall Talbot (deceased September 18, 2011) while he was still a sailor during World War II. They married on May 13, 1945 and set up home after Guy's discharge in his birthplace and hometown, Modesto, California where Guy worked as a television technician. When Guy became a technical representative for RCA in 1956 the family moved to Spokane, Washington where they lived until 1963 when they moved to Minot, North Dakota where Guy worked on the missile defense program with the Department of Defense. In 1965 the family made their final move to Lompoc where Guy worked at Vandenberg AFB.
Carleen worked on and off during her life in office jobs. She was an active member of The First United Methodist Church in Lompoc and devoted a lot of energy working in her garden. In her 60's she attended Allan Hancock College and became the oldest person to earn her Associate degree and thereafter became active in the Lompoc chapter of The American Association of University Women. She was also active in the Scribblers creative writers group. Carleen was also always proud of the fact that, in their sixties, she and Guy hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and climbed out again.
Carleen and Guy had four children: Mark, 1948; Roger, 1951; and the twins Paula and Gail, 1953. Paula died December 28, 2008. Besides her three surviving children Carleen is survived by nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
When asked how she wanted to be remembered Carleen answered "I lived a full long life and it was my time to die."
A memorial service will be held for Carleen at on Saturday, April 30 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Lompoc. Carleen wishes mourners to make contributions to The First United Methodist Church of Lompoc in lieu of flowers.
