1952 – 2009

Carmelo Escobedo of Lompoc died Sunday, January 4, 2009, at the age of 56.

Melo was born March 18, 1952 to Carmelo and Stella Escobedo in Santa Barbara. Raised and educated in Santa Barbara, he graduated from Santa Barbara High School in 1971. Working as a painter for various businesses for more than 30 years, he retired and moved to Lompoc in 1995.

Melo loved fishing, cooking and taking his children on camping trips. He considered himself to be the Oakland Raider's number one fan.

Melo is survived by his wife Donna Escobedo, his mother Stella Guevara of Lompoc, his daughters Leana and Janae Escobedo of Ventura, sons Andrew Rogers of Orville, Robert Rogers of Lompoc, Kyle Kolish of Lompoc, daughter Kelsey Kolish of Lompoc and son Corey Kolish of Lompoc, brothers Fernando Abundiz of Los Angeles and Larry Spurlock of Santa Barbara, sisters Mary Barrios of Santa Barbara, Venus Alvara of Santa Barbara, Rachel Ramirez of Santa Barbara, Yolanda Terriquez of Santa Barbara and Regina Lopez of Carpinteria, seven grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.

The visitation will be on Tuesday, January 13, 2009, from 4-8 pm with the recitation of the rosary at 5 pm in the chapel of the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. Monsignor John Fitzgerald will lead the funeral service on Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at 11 am also at the mortuary. Cremation will be followed by private inurnment.
