Graveside services for Carmen V. Gonsalves, 63, of Lompoc, will be 3 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2007 at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery with Msgr. John Fitzgerald of Queen of Angels Catholic Church officiating

Carmen, a native of Lompoc, was born Nov. 18, 1943 to Alfredo and Josephine Bumatay (McCrary). She attended local schools and eventually earned an associate degree from Allan Hancock College. Carmen was employed with the Lompoc Unified School District for almost 30 years. She began working as a secretary in 1978 at Lompoc High School and later at Hapgood Elementary School. Her favorite pastimes included jazzercising, bowling, spending time with family. Carmen also enjoyed her cats.

She died Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at Cottage Hospital with her family by her side.

Survivors include her mother, Josephine McCrary; daughter, Kelly Gonsalves of San Diego; sons, Brent Gonsalves of Santa Barbara and Philip Gonsalves, Jr. of Lompoc; and companion, George Matzie.

Memorial contributions may be made to Carmen's daughter at Bank of America Lompoc Banking Center in the name of Carmen Gonsalves Memorial Fund.

Cremation arrangements are in the care of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary.
