Carole Diane
Mccormick
February 1, 1942 – March 15, 2014
Mrs. Carole Diane McCormick passed away on Saturday March 15, 2014, at Kindred Hospital West Covina following a lengthy illness. Carole was born to the late Ernestine and Franklin Smith, on February 1, 1942 in Cleveland Ohio. Her family relocated to Maple Valley, Seattle Washington where she attended and graduated from Garfield High School in 1961.
Later in years, she found herself in Lompoc Valley California, where in 1972 she met and married the love of her life Joseph B. McCormick, a Technical Sergeant assigned to the 30'th Space Wing at Vandenberg Air Force Base. Carole was employed at Santa Barbara Research Center as an electronics technician and quality inspector for 14 years. In the latter years after retiring from Santa Barbara Research Center, she began to work at Lompoc's Wal-Mart as a Cashier Sales Manager. She worked at Wal-Mart for 15 years until her recent retirement in April of 2013.
It was her values and her commitment to community and people that led her to become deeply involved in her local community and with Lompoc's veteran organizations. She was a member of the American Legion Post's 125. She also served as President of the Ladies Auxiliary for the Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post 570 and then became the VFW District 8 President for the State of California, an office she held until her illness. She was also a member of Lompoc's Club Arcturus as a Way Means Committee member. A spiritually devout Catholic, she was a Eucharistic Minister with the La Purisima Catholic Church and a member of the Women's Connection Organization for the Lompoc Valley Chapter through Stone Croft Ministries.
Carole is survived by her loving Husband of 43 years, Joseph B. McCormick with their four Children; Terri Manning and husband Ronald Manning of San Diego, California, Jeff McCormick of Lompoc, California, Alison McCormick of Ojai, California and USN Master Chief Petty Officer Shawn McCormick of D.C. Maryland. She was blessed with two Granddaughters Kori and Jaiden Manning, who become the love and inspiration of her life.
Carole was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who touched so many lives over her 43 year's within the Lompoc Community. Carole's illness and then passing was a lost to all of us but her dignity was never more tested or well demonstrated than in the final weeks of her life. A compassionate, spiritually gifted mother, she demonstrated the meaning of love to her children and others, she will forever be remembered in our hearts.
