Col. Carrol Buford, 85, left this world at 4:45am Monday May 8th, 2017.
Carrol was born Dec. 4th, 1931 in Arkansas and lived a wonderful life. He joined the Air Force as a young man and retired a Colonel after 30 years of service. During his years in service he was an Air Force pilot, worked for the Houston (NASA) Space Program, helped with the design & engineering of the F-15 jet, worked at Norad in Colorado, and was a Base Commander in Greenland.
After his years in Greenland he returned to the States to work in the Missile & Space Program at VAFB, then spent 10 years working for ITT at VAFB until he retired at age 62.
Carrol is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dee Buford, daughter Karen Long (Husband Eugene), son Joe Buford, sister Catherine Buford Hall, brother Tom Buford, his 3 grandchildren, Shawn Long (Wife Penny), Jenifer Long-Houle (Husband Sean), and Jesse Long (Wife Kolby), as well as his 7 great grandchildren all of Lompoc.
He is preceded in death by his son James Buford
A private family service with a 21 Gun salute will be held. A "Celebrations of Life" will follow at a later date.
