Memorial services for Catherine T. Moorman, 79, of Lompoc, will be 1 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2008 at La Purisima Catholic Church with Rev. Tom Cook officiating. Private inurnment will be at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery.

Catherine was born June 26, 1928 in Savannah, Georgia to John and Leola Smalls-Fleming. After her high school graduation she moved to New York City with her mother and her late brothers Samuel and John Jr. She completed trade school at Atlantic Bell and worked several years for the phone company. Catherine also completed the first two years of a four year Communications degree at New York University.

She was preceded by her late son Lester Moorman in 2004. She moved to Lompoc in 2006 from Bronx, New York and was a member of La Purisima Catholic Church. Catherine was an avid reader who enjoyed sewing and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Catherine sacrificed her entire life and personal goals for the advancement of her family. She died Sunday, February 24, 2008 at Lompoc Hospital.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Marc and Lisa Mitchell of Lompoc; daughters-in-law Claudia Ashby of Jamaica, New York and Adele Moorman of Virginia; grandchildren, Khary Moorman, LaToya Mitchell, and Diamonne Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Elijah Moorman, Isaiah Moorman, and Micah Moorman.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation of Southern California, 6300 Wilshire Blvd. #100, Los Angeles, 90048, www.diabetes.org. Cremation arrangements are in the care of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary.
