On the evening of January 12, Cecelia Luna Ramos passed away peacefully surrounded by close family after a long battle with dementia. Cecelia was born in Lompoc on August 3, 1932 to the late Tefelio and Cecelia Navarro. She was one of fourteen sisters and brothers of the Cruz/Navarro family. Cecelia, a caring and compassionate woman who found her calling as a dietician aide at Camp Cooke, now Vandendberg Air force Base, for a period of time. During that time, she also volunteered at the local American Red Cross. Immediately following marriage, Cecelia worked at several grocery chains under Foresters Union for 35 years. After retiring, she volunteered at Templeton High School and Twin Cities Community Hospital. Cecelia always had a passion for helping others and supporting her community.
Cecelia met the love of her life Charles (Charlie) Walter Ramos while attending a local dance at Memorial Hall in Lompoc. Charlie could not help but notice Cecelia as she was dancing with friends. Charlie took that brave step and asked Cecelia to dance. Later that evening they enjoyed a soda together by the flagpole where he asked her to marry him. They married in August of 1952 prior to Charlie leaving for the Korean War.
Cecelia and Charlie raised their family of three children: Catherine, Charlene, and Charles (Chuck), for twenty years in Lompoc and then moved to Atascadero. Cecelia and Charlie became quite fond of the wine country and moved into a house with 26 acres in Paso Robles. After a period of time, they moved to Nipomo to settle into a smaller property, be closer with family, and enjoy more travelling opportunities.
Two things that Cecilia absolutely loved were traveling and visiting family. Cecelia and Charlie had the opportunity to visit family in both Sicily and Mexico. They also traveled throughout Europe and Hawaii. Some of Cecelia's memorable and enjoyable activities included dancing, reading bible verses, driving to the beach, and spending time with her beloved dog Choppers. Cecelia would ensure that every guest in her house was always taken care of. Every family or friend leaving the house would receive a special blessing which included the sign of the cross.
Cecelia is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Charles Ramos, daughter Catherine Steinke, son-in-law Dr. Ricardo Murguia, parents Tefelio and Cecelia Navarro, brothers Tony Cruz, Petro Cruz, Roger Cruz, and Gilbert Navarro, sisters Sally Gavarra, Cora Maldonado, and Esther Lara.
