Obituary

Charles Russell Capshaw
July 22, 1962 – November 6, 2024

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Charles Russell "Russ" Capshaw, age 62, on November 6, 2024. Born on July 22, 1962, in Lompoc, California, Russ was a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend to all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Anne Capshaw, and his children: Charles Capshaw, Joshua Capshaw, Trey Herning, Cienna Scheer, Beth-Annie Capshaw, and Melodee Capshaw. He is also survived by his sister Debra Kay Tinney-Nelson, many nieces and nephews, extended family, and many friends who will miss his kind spirit and infectious warmth.

Russ lived with a deep sense of purpose, which included a remarkable 15 years of sobriety. His journey toward recovery was one of strength, determination, and unwavering faith, and it inspired many others. He remained committed to helping those around him, showing that it is never too late to change and find peace.

Russ enjoyed fishing, often sharing this passion with his family and friends. He was also a gifted musician, spending hours playing guitar and singing, a talent he used to bring joy to others. His love for music was matched only by his deep faith, and he found fulfillment in leading singing at his local congregation and teaching Bible classes. Russ' commitment to his faith and his community was evident in all he did.

Russ was preceded in death by his parents, William Perrygo "Smokey" Capshaw and Betty Jo Capshaw, as well as his siblings, Bradley Dean Capshaw and Barbara Jo Capshaw.

A memorial service to celebrate Russ' life will be held at Lompoc church of Christ on November 23, 2024, at 11:00am. The family invites friends and loved ones to join them in honoring his memory.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lompoc church of Christ in Russ' name, as well as a GoFundMe campaign has been established on behalf of the family to assist with expenses during this difficult time. Donations can be made by visiting https://gofund.me/bd47710f or by contacting Debra Kay Tinney-Nelson or Michael Cottam for more information. Your support is deeply appreciated during this challenging period.

Russ' memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. His legacy of faith, sobriety, friendship, and love for life will be carried forward by those who loved him most.
