Obituary

Charles William Hedricks was born January 27, 1921 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania to George and Kathryn Hedricks. Charles went to Heaven on February 2, 2009, while sleeping peacefully in his home.

Charles spent the majority of his youth in Lancaster during the great depression. Much of Charles time was spent playing with his four brothers (George, Paul, Grant and Jere) and three sisters (Dorothy, Elizabeth and Patsy). Although the depression was tough, Charles could only recall good memories of his childhood.

During his adult life, Charles served his country from 1943 to 1945 in the United States Army Air Corp during WWII. Charles was an airplane and engine mechanic for the 442nd Bomb Squad 320th Bomb GB.

Charles married Vora Virginia Sandbach in October of 1958. Charles and Vora moved to Lompoc in 1960 where Charles started his career as a budget officer for Vandenberg Air Force Base. Charles retired in 1983 after 33 years of service

In his retirement Charles' hobbies included woodworking, stained glass, the La Purisima Mission, photography and visiting Lompoc flower fields. Charles was also a member of the Lompoc Senior Task Force, the Lompoc Pinochle Club and the Lompoc Coffee Club which met at the Santa Barbara Bank and Trust.

Charles is survived by his wife Vora Hedricks, daughter Eva Hedricks, two sons, Mead (Rhonda) and Michael (Dody) Hedricks, all of Lompoc. Charles has six grandchildren, Mead (Lindsay) Hedricks, Jr., Marisa Terres, Stephanie Hedricks, Jimmy Terres, Kelsey Hedricks and Kyle Hedricks. Charles is also survived by his two sisters, Elizabeth Duffey and Patsy (Don) Gabel all of Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

The viewing will be held on Friday, February 6th at Starbuck-Lind Mortuary in Lompoc from 12 noon to 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Valley of the Flowers Half Century Club of the La Purisima Mission State Park.
