Charles Eugene Nelms of Lompoc passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at the age of 61.
Charles was born September 16, 1950, to Garrnett and Alice Nelms in Highpoint, South Carolina. Formerly of Alabama, his family settled in Lompoc in 1962, where he attended Lompoc High School graduating in 1968. He subsequently earned an associate's degree from Allan Hancock.
Charles served his country in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Polk, Fort Jackson and Fort Ord during the Viet Nam War.
Charles worked as a food and beverage manager at the Red Lion Inn in Santa Barbara and the Marriott in Buellton. He attended the Lompoc Church of Christ and enjoyed playing the guitar and working with wood.
He is survived by his fiancée Monica Williams of Lompoc, his daughter Faith Nelms, and his two brothers James Nelms of Lompoc and Jerry Nelms of Santa Maria.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2012, at 1 pm in the chapel of the Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. Cremation will be followed by private inurnment.
