Obituary

Charles Virgil Rasband of Lompoc passed away at home on May 22, 2016; he was four months shy of 91. He was raised by his mother and grandmother in Saugus, CA. Charlie joined the Navy at 17 to serve his country during WWII. He served in the South Pacific on the Solomons, Green and Russel Islands, and the skills he learned with the Sea Bees would follow him through life as he maintained his home and cars. After the war he married his childhood sweetheart Dora Dorn whom he had met at 15 while bike riding. Charlie began work with the Whittier Police Department as a patrolman in 1951. He studied criminal justice at USC. He rose through the ranks to become Captain of the Detective Bureau.
His greatest concern was his family's well-being. He frequently worked a second job to provide a comfortable home, good education, and vacations for his family. Charlie enjoyed playing pool, yardwork, fishing and was an avid reader.
After retirement, he and Dora relocated in Lompoc to be near family. Charlie returned to a habit learned as a patrolman by visiting Lompoc Donuts each morning. There he enjoyed the comradery of friends, meeting new people, and keeping up on community news.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years Dora; daughter, Libby Lindsay and son, Robert Rasband (Sabrina); Granddaughters Kristina Rasband and Jenny Morris (Matt Morris); Grandson, Kristopher Rasband and Great Granddaughter, Phoebe Morris. We will miss you always.
